Make a Difference in our County - Join the United Way Board!
Thank you for your interest in joining United Way of Snohomish County's Board of Directors. The recruitment period is now closed, however we still encourage you to apply if you are interested as we may be onboarding a second class of board members in early 2025.
Following a period of transition, we seek the expertise of local leaders to develop and implement strategies that achieve our goal of enhancing the lives of families in Snohomish and Island Counties by bringing together people, resources, and strategies. UWSC has consistently been a catalyst for poverty alleviation and a hub for partnerships and impact. We are dedicated to resuming this vital role and reconnecting with the community effectively.
The Board of Directors welcomes individuals who are passionate about a thriving community and can lend their experience and knowledge as we shift from a traditional governance board to a more active board, broadening programs, nurturing partnerships, and reinvigorating advocacy efforts.
Responsibilities
Board member responsibilities encompass overall governance, strategic and programmatic oversight, and the authority to make ultimate decisions on financial, community investment, and strategic matters, in addition to supporting the Executive Director and staff with operational requirements. The time commitment is 4-6 hours per month. See the full Job Description here.
Too busy to join the board but still want to make a difference? We are also recruiting for our Finance, Advocacy, and Fund Development Committees. These have a commitment of 2-3 hours per month.
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee meets for 1 hour per month to review United Way’s financial statements, set fiscal policy, and oversee audits and financial reporting. Ideal committee members bring a background in banking, investments, and personal or organizational finance. The Committee is led by the Board Treasurer and staffed by the Director of Finance.
Advocacy Committee
The Advocacy Committee analyzes legislation at the local and State level to determine potential alignment or conflict with United Way’s mission, contributing to the creation of the annual policy agenda. They meet regularly from September through June and participate in the annual Lobby Day in Olympia during session. The Committee is staffed by the Deputy Director.
Fund Development Committee
The Fund Development Committee comes together to support United Way’s fundraising efforts. It supports the annual fundraising strategy by facilitating introductions to aligned individuals, companies, or funders that have an interest in strengthening our shared community. Members will also participate in cultivation or stewardship meetings, promote campaign activities, and support the building and execution of a robust annual fundraising plan. The Committee is staffed by the Director of Fund Development.
