Labor Partnership

The United Way-labor relationship started in 1942, among Community Chests and Councils and the American Federation of Labor (AFL), the umbrella organization of labor unions. The United Auto Workers helped secure payroll deduction for the Community Chests, setting the stage for United Way's unique funding mechanism among non-for-profits. Since then, unions, the AFL-CIO and Central Labor Councils have been partners in the workplace campaign, encouraging union members to give and volunteer.

United Way of Snohomish County is proud to partner with Snohomish & Island County Labor Council in a variety of ways, most recently:

The Letter Carriers' Food Drive: The Letter Carriers’ Food Drive is a joint project led and organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers, the Snohomish and Island County Labor Council, the United States Postal Service, Volunteers of America Western Washington, and the United Way of Snohomish County. This is the nation’s largest single-day food drive and provides critical support to Food Banks right before the summer when children are out of school and have less access to free and reduced-cost meals.

School Supplies for Local Schools: UWSC proudly helps to purchase school supplies at cost for at-need schools in our county, through our partnership with Snohomish & Island County Labor Council and local partners.
